Semaglutide works by mimicking a naturally occurring hormone. As those hormone levels rise, the molecules go to your brain, telling it you're full. It also slows digestion by increasing the time it takes for food to leave the body.

We recommend going very slowly to increase the dose. For most clients who weigh less than 200 lbs, we don't recommend exceeding 1mg/week, because we hope to help you make other lifestyle changes so you won't depend only on the medicine.

Month 1- 0.25 mg per week

Month 2- 0.5 mg per week

Month 3- 1 mg per week (or 0.75 mg for some clients)

Month 4 and onwards- 1 mg per week, or higher depending on a client's weight

Semaglutide is a once-weekly injection that reduces cravings and appetite, leading to weight loss. It also helps regulate blood sugar and increases insulin secretion, boosting metabolic health. Semaglutide is the FDA-approved active ingredient in Wegovy® and Ozempic®. It requires physician approval and a valid prescription.

Prescribing Process:

Compounded semaglutide is prescribed based on a thorough medical consultation to ensure it meets the specific needs and preferences of each patient.

Compounding Pharmacies:

Compounded medications are prepared by licensed pharmacists to meet individual patient needs. Any compounded semaglutide we prescribe to our clients is crafted following the highest standards of quality and safety, adhering to the guidelines set forth by the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act under Section 503A for compounding pharmacies. Each vial of the medicine should be labelled with the patient's name and dosing.

Regulatory considerations:

Compounded medications can help to address drug shortages and be more specific to patient needs. Wegovy® has been on an ongoing FDA-shortage list since March of 2022, and so there has been a desperate need for patients to identify unique ways to access the API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) that works for them based on a discussion with their prescribing physician.

Formulation:

While the active ingredient might be the same, the formulation may differ. Compounded semaglutide is formulated in a state-of-the-art compounding pharmacy to meet individual patient requirements, whereas Wegovy® is a commercially available standardized formulation. Your prescribing physician may prescribe a slightly different formulation than what is commercially available. Different compound pharmacies also make slightly different formulations. Please be aware that most formulations should be refrigerated, but some may be kept at room temperature.
